PART A
COTE-L MEGAPRIME EP-90 UNIVERSAL CLEAR EPOXY PRIMER
SPECIALLY FORMULATED FOR DURABAK AND OTHER POLYURETHANE, EPOXY, ACRYLIC, POLYESTER & MOST WATER-BASED & SOLVENT-BASED TOPCOATS
MEGAPRIME EP-90 Universal Epoxy Primer is an easy-to-use, low viscosity
primer suitable for all polyurethane, epoxy, acrylic, polyester, water-based & solvent-based topcoats.
It cures to provide exceptional adhesion to a variety of substrates, with the additional flexibility required for urethane. It provides a cost-effective coverage rate and a fast drying time even at low
temperatures. MEGAPRIME EP-90 is ideal for concrete, plaster,
most metals (see surface prep), wood, stone and existing coatings. MEGAPRIME EP-90
has minimal solvent content and low odor suitable for interior & exterior applications.
MEGAPRIME EP-90 inhibits metal corrosion.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Ensure all substrates are thoroughly dry, clean, sound and free from any
contaminants such as dirt, rust, salt, algae and grease. MEGAPRIME EP-90 exhibits good adhesion to all porous substrates and most non-porous substrates with the exception of certain types of aluminum (see surface prep for aluminum) and
stainless steel.
sanding, wire brushing, with a chipping hammer or sandblasting. A rust
convertor may be necessary for rust that can’t all be removed.
Steel cleaner until a water break-free surface (water does not bead up on surface) is attained. Lightly abrade the surface. Rinse well with water and allow to dry.
2 hours before oxides can reform. A test area is recommended with certain
grades of aluminum, especially aircraft & marine grades, which may be difficult to
bond to.
sandpaper to remove all gloss. Solvent wipe with xylene (or any other solvent), allow to dry before
application.
that cannot be removed. Sand lightly, clean thoroughly before application.
wipe and apply once dry.
APPLICATION
tests for adhesion have been completed and areas not to be coated have
been masked off.
PART A
(i) At 68°F: the coating will be suitable for over coating, after touch-dry, in 4-24 hours.
(ii) At 43°F: the coating will be suitable for over coating in 8 hours.
IMPORTANT:
When over coating, make sure there is no water on the surface of the EP-90.
If left for more than 24 hours, without over coating, lightly sand & remove dust. Then recoat.

I purchased a couple quarts of the primer to paint my boat trailer. I took the trailer down to bare metal and then mixed-up a quart of DuraPrime and started rolling it. Unfortunately, within about 15 minutes, the primer in my roller pan started to get thick, almost like Elmer's glue. And, even worse, within about 35 minutes the primer still in the can turned to rubber and became unusable.
After reaching out to Durabak, I tried it again using the second quart. This time, I only mixed-up about a cup of primer at a time (just enough to fill my roller tray). The primer still thickened a bit more than I would've liked but using this approach I was able to get a good first coat on.
I had to purchase a third quart so that I could apply a second coat and had much better success with it. I still mixed up small batches at a time but the primer didn't thicken a quickly and was much easier to apply.
Once I finally got it applied, the DuraPrime was great - it covered things very well and hardened nicely. Time will tell but from the looks of it it should provide great protection against rust. And, it made a great base to apply the Durabak.

Seems to serve as an excellent high-bond primer. Sticky stuff that sets fast. Somewhat challenging to apply an even, thin coating. The recommended roller applied far too much. If brushing, plan to use a stiff, thin-bodied brush and work quickly.

When I sprayed it on it looked really transparent so I got a few runs when it was finished. Seems like it will work. When I rolled the bed liner on it seems to have a extreme tight bond.
